To say this has been an interesting filing season would be an understatement. So while this post won't fix anything, it can maybe help with the "you're not alone" feeling. Short version, some 29 million tax returns are still awaiting manual processing (in other words, refunds are on hold). This is per a blog post from the National Taxpayer Advocate Service, which is independent from the IRS (link https://www.taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/news/nta-blog-2021-filing-season-bumps-in-the-road-part-1/) . If I'm inferring correctly, included in that 29 million number are over 5 million paper filed returns which includes the 2019 and 2020 tax years. I'll refrain from comment, just wanted to share the facts.
