I had the opportunity to have conversations with the IRS this morning about three different taxpayers. Just to confirm what we pretty much already knew, the IRS is far from being caught up on processing returns. That, combined with some personal experience showing that the postal service's delivery times show significant delays means that electronic filing is definitely the mode of choice where possible - and if it's not possible, be sure to send returns via certified mail with return receipt (at the very least, priority mail so you have delivery tracking). In spite of that, the agents with whom I spoke were pleasant and helpful. So.... IRS issues? Don't feel like you need to go down that path alone - that's what I'm here for. Can't say waiting on hold for the IRS is the most fun ever, but working towards resolving tax issues - yeah, that can be kinda' fun depending on the circumstances.
