From the cynical CPA (with a smile...)

Good morning! Your cynical CPA is back in town. Two things - if you are part of a partnership or S corp, the IRS "most likely" is requiring additional forms this year (K-2 and K-3, for those keeping score at home). Well, that sounds fine, right? What could possibly go wrong (laughs nervously). Welp - partnership and S Corp returns are due March 15, right? The teeny tiny little flaw with the whole plan is IRS will not accept electronically filed returns with these forms until late April for partnerships and sometime in June for S Corps. So - just as general interest, if your tax preparer sounds vague about when your tax return can be filed - there's a reason for that. What I think about that reason really isn't important now. Anyway - as an added bonus, the IRS is apparently going to back down from the ID.me requirement for checking on advanced child tax credit payments among other things. From an "Accounting Today" article the IRS is saying that during the transition period (away from ID.me) it would "quickly develop and bring online an alternative authentication process that doesn't involve facial recognition." So the IRS will "quickly develop and bring online" a substantial process. I'm not sure what part of history makes me think this should go really well. Have a great day anyway! :-)
